Wed, 14 March 2007 Hi. This is Episode 3 of Conversation Corner. Thanks for dropping by and listening. On today's show I talk about watching movies in Vancouver and Korea. I like watching movies but I don't have much time to see them. The last movie I saw was Deja vu with Denzel Washington and it was very good. I hope you'll be able to see a new movie called Fido. It's about how people have zombies for servants. It's a comedy and it's won a couple of awards already. Carrie Ann Moss, Trinity from The Matrix, is in it. And it was written by a friend of mine so I hope you'll get a chance to see it. Then I introduce three ways to start a conversation with someone: How to break the ice. This is part one of fourteen where I will teach you ways to start a conversation and keep it going. Make sure you make your own examples and send them to me to check. Hope you enjoy the show. Tue, 13 March 2007 Hi. This is the third episode of Say it Right. Thanks for coming by and listening today. Today, I talk about the price of some things in Vancouver compared to Korea. For example, gas for your car is much cheaper here than in Korea. Then, we'll practice the /k/ and /g/ sounds like in the words 'cat' and 'get.' I really want you to focus on how to make these two sounds because they will help you to make a couple of other sounds. One of these other sounds is a really difficult one, but if you know /k/ and /g/ it will be much easier. You'll find out what it is on a later show...but some of you already know, don't you? :-) Hope you enjoy today's show! Topics discussed:

Mon, 12 March 2007 Hi. Thanks for tuning in for Episode 3 of Media Moment. I'm happy to say that it's a beautiful sunny day here in Vancouver. It's still a little cold, but we haven't seen the sun in a little while so it's a nice change. On today's show I talk about how I've been looking for online reading that I can share with you. I found one site that had funny short stories but they weren't really funny and most of them were just jokes. However, I did find one story that is pretty good, so that's what you'll hear on today's show. I also talk about a really great TV show I've been watching called Heroes. It's about regular people who discover that they have superpowers. You can watch the show from the Heroes' website if you have a certain computer. Also, you can read the online comic book which will be great practice for you. Anyway, hope you enjoy today's show! Topics discussed:

Sun, 11 March 2007 Hope you've had a good weekend. It was a wet and rainy weekend here in Vancouver, so it was perfect for spending time at home, watching TV, and eating Oreos with milk. Watching TV is something I really enjoy and you'll hear about some of the cartoons that I enjoyed watching when I was a kid. On today's Expression Connection you'll learn about the expression "it dawned on me..." This is used when someone realizes something. The example comes from an interview with a famous American actor named Will Ferrell. You might know him from the movie Elf. The example is spoken slowly so it should be easy for you to listen to it. Have a good day and hope you enjoy the show. Topics discussed:

Wed, 7 March 2007 Hi. Thanks for listening to Episode 2 of Conversation Corner. Today I talk a little about the non-smoking laws in Vancouver. I like them because I don't smoke, but maybe some of you won't like it. :) And I'm going to continue the basics of having a conversation with a Westerner or any English native speaker. Today, I talk about non-verbal communication skills that you should know and practice. Non-verbal communication, or body language, is really important because it can help create a good first impression. This will be useful when you want to talk to someone, make friends, or have a job interview. So, get comfortable and get ready for today's show. Thanks again for listening. Remember, you can get a script for this show and you can also register for one-on-one classes. Please email me at carl[at]evolutionenglish[dot]com for more information. Thanks again and bye for now. ps Are any of you having trouble listening to the podcast on your mp3 player? If you are, please email me and let me know. Thanks. Comments[6] |
Tue, 6 March 2007 Hi, this is Episode 2 of Say it Right and today I talk about a pot-luck dinner I went to and some of the food that was there. I seem to be talking about food all the time. The funny thing is that I think I'm still the same weight as before even though I've been more than usual. I guess I can thank yoga for that. In today's practice we'll be practicing the /f/ and /v/ sounds. These two sounds are sometimes confused with /p/ and /b/ so it'll be good to practice them. Anyway, thanks for listening and hope you enjoy the show. Remember, you can get a script for this show and you can also register for one-on-one classes. Please email me at carl[at]evolutionenglish[dot]com for more information. Thanks again and bye for now. Comments[0] |

In this show I talk about the King Crab I had for dinner recently and then I talk about something really interesting that I saw on The Oprah Winfrey Show. Wed, 28 February 2007 Hi. Welcome back for today's episode. Today is Conversation Corner and on today's show I talk about what to say when you email someone and also some basic greetings that native speakers commonly use. It'd be a good idea to practice some of these because it can be confusing and hard to understand if you have to talk to a native speaker. I had some problems with the Evolution English email address, but it's working now. Sorry if some of you couldn't email me. Please try again and it will work now. Thanks again for listening and supporting me. I hope you enjoy today's show.
